The timeline shows the finished video. Parts you cut take no space, and everything after a cut closes up.
Lanes
From the top: the ruler, the Clip lane with its sound waveform, then Zooms, Camera layouts, Masks and Texts. The Zooms lane is always there so you can add to it; the others appear once they have something in them.
The visible timelines menu at the bottom left shows or hides each lane. The Clip lane is always shown.
Moving around
- Click or drag on the ruler to move the playhead. A faint line follows your pointer to show where a click will land.
- Space plays and pauses. ← and → step one frame; with ⇧, one second. ↑ goes to the start and ↓ to the end.
- Zoom the timeline with ⌘= and ⌘-, or pinch on a trackpad. ⌘0 fits the whole video. When zoomed in, the timeline scrolls to follow the playhead.
Snapping
Dragging bars and edges snaps to the start and end of the video, clip edges, the playhead and zoom edges. An orange line shows while something is snapped.
Preview speed
Preview 1× at the right of the transport plays the editor at 0.5× to 3×. It only changes how fast you watch while editing; the finished video isn't affected. To speed up the video itself, see Speed.
