macOS asks you before an app can see your screen, use your camera or hear your microphone. Screen Motion only asks for each one when you first use the feature that needs it.
| Permission | Asked when | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Screen Recording | you first set up a recording | recording a display, window or area |
| Camera | you choose a camera, or record an iPhone or iPad | adding your face, recording a device |
| Microphone | you choose a microphone | recording your voice |
| Accessibility | you choose to show pressed keys, or to resize a window | showing shortcuts, resizing other apps' windows |
| Speech Recognition | you generate captions | writing captions from your voice |
Screen Motion never asks for Input Monitoring. The pointer is followed without it, and the global shortcuts don't need it either.
Screen Recording
If access is missing, the recorder bar shows Grant Screen Recording… and the preview card says Screen Motion needs Screen Recording access. Click the button and turn Screen Motion on in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording.
When a permission was denied
Screen Motion tells you which one is missing, for example Allow Camera access for Screen Motion in System Settings → Privacy & Security to record yourself. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, choose the permission, and switch Screen Motion on. Messages about Accessibility come with an Open Settings button that takes you straight there.
