Recording an iPhone or iPad

1. Connect the iPhone or iPad to your Mac with a cable, and unlock it.
2. Open the recorder bar and choose Device, or click Device on the home window.
3. Pick the device from the menu. It can take a few seconds to appear.
4. Click Record.

Device mode uses the Camera permission rather than Screen Recording, because macOS treats a connected device like a camera.

What's different

• Picture only. The device's sound, your camera and your microphone aren't recorded in this mode.
• No pointer. There's no cursor to style and no clicks to zoom on, so add zooms by hand. See Adding zooms.
• The preview card doesn't show the device's screen. Check it on the device itself.
